World Cup Qualifiers | Proud of ‘monumental performance’, Sunil Chhetri on Qatar result

Image
While admitting that it was torture to miss the Qatar game in the World Cup Qualifiers, Sunil Chhetri has asserted that he was proud of the team’s monumental performance. The skipper also added that even though India have just one point in two games, the confidence in the camp is incredible. For long,  Sunil Chhetri  has been the centrepiece of the Indian football team and is often seen as the lone face of the sport in India. So when he was ruled out of the game against Asian Champions Qatar, fans would not have been wrong in believing that India were in for a rough night in the World Cup Qualifiers. India are playing their second game on Tuesday. The team reached here on Saturday ahead of the match against Qatar, who had won the Asian Cup in January and are expected to pose a tougher challenge to the visitors. "As soon as the Oman match ended, we shifted our focus immediately to the next match. Qatar are the strongest team in the group and playing them will not be easy. However, it's a great opportunity to learn from," Stimac said. "Obviously, we have to change 4-5 players. We'll see how everyone is feeling. There is no reason to fear and we shall look to score goals and ...

The Indian senior men's team reached Guwahati on Monday (September 2) ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Oman on Thursday (September 5). The match kicks off India's FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign, and also the joint-qualification process for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023. A majority of the players in the Indian squad labelled Guwahati as a special venue for them, with Sandesh Jhingan and Pritam Kotal having made their international debuts at the venue in 2015, when India took on Nepal in the qualifiers for the World Cup qualifiers. The squad headed to Guwahati after a preparatory camp in Goa on August 20. Local boy Vinit Rai, who was born in Duliajan in the Dibrugarh district of Assam, added that he hopes that a victory against Oman will help the “ease the pain for people in Assam, after a number of people lost their lives due to floods in the state.”
